Chief Warrant Officer Todd Herbert is a native of Mobile, Alabama, and graduated from John Shaw High School in 1979. He enlisted in the Navy in February 1982 and reported for recruit training at Recruit Training Command Orlando, Florida. In June 1982 he completed training for Aviation Structural Mechanic (Structures) at Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC) in Millington, Tennessee. Todd then reported to Naval Air Maintenance Training Group Detachment (NAMTRAGRUDET), Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana, Virginia, for advanced training on the airframe, hydraulics and related systems of the F-4 Phantom. Todd then reported to Fighter Squadron 171 (VF-171), the "Flying Aces" at NAS Key West, Florida, in 1982. After decommissioning VF-171 in 1984, Todd received orders to Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD) at NAS Pensacola. He completed advanced aeronautical welding training and reported to non-destructive inspection technician training at Chanute Air Force Base (AFB) in 1986. Todd then received orders and reported to USS Guam (LPH 9). While there, he served as airframes leading petty officer and quality assurance representative. He completed two Mediterranean Sea deployments and numerous amphibious exercises. In January 1990, Todd reported to AIMD Oceana where he was assigned as non-destructive inspection supervisor and aeronautical welding supervisor. In February 1993, Todd reported to PCU Kearsarge in Pascagoula, Mississippi. After commissioning USS Kearsarge (LHD 3), Todd assumed the duties as airframes leading petty officer and production control supervisor where he was promoted to chief petty officer. Todd completed the ship's maiden deployment to the Mediterranean and Adriatic seas and participated in numerous combat operations. Todd reported to AIMD Norfolk, Virginia, in March 1997 where he served as production control leading chief petty officer, quality assurance officer, and avionics leading chief during his tour. In August 1997, Todd completed all requirements and received a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframes and Power Plants license. In April 1999 Todd was promoted to senior chief petty officer and in September 2000 he was commissioned as a chief warrant officer. After completing the Limited Duty Officer/Chief Warrant Officer Indoctrination and the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program Manager course, Todd reported for duty with the Strike Fighter Squadron 34 (VFA-34) "Blue Blasters" at NAS Oceana in December 2000. After initially serving as Quality Assurance Officer (QAO), he served as the Maintenance Material Control Officer (MMCO) and Assistant Maintenance Officer (AMO). Todd completed a combat deployment to the Arabian Gulf aboard USS George Washington (CVN 73) in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Southern Watch. Todd then reported to AIMD Oceana in February 2004. He served as assistant production control officer and AIRSpeed officer. Todd spearheaded the implementation and deployment of the Navy's first AIRSpeed site. Todd joined the Blue Angels in September of 2005. His decorations include four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, six Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and various personal and unit awards. |
